Voted San Francisco's Best Karaoke Lounge

We’ve been voted the top San Francisco & Bay Area karaoke lounge for many years by top blogs & local awards such as SFWEEKLY, Zagat, Brokeass Stuart, SFGate, SF Gay History, thrillist, PinkSpots, 7×7, Golden Gate Express, Bay Guardian, Bay Reporter and many more. We even once had a Japanese Documentary crew come into film.

Here is a snippet of The Mint from SFGate: “I’ve been coming here for 20 years. Why do I come here? I have absolutely no idea,” mused Maddox. “It’s the best place.”

This is a karaoke snippet of The Mint from thrillist: “It’s a relic from a time when the city was truly about freedom to express yourself shamelessly. I can’t imagine San Francisco without it.”

Another snippet about karaoke at The Mint from SF Gay History: “Originally a steakhouse and piano bar, The Mint evolved into a karaoke bar in 1993. It is routinely named Best Karaoke Bar by the Bay Guardian, the Bay Area Reporter, and other publications.”

The Mint Karaoke Lounge is an everyone’s welcome bar. It famously was a gay bar for many years and with the introduction to karaoke 1993 it opened its door to everyone who wanted to feel safe and at home while performing their favorite song. This was best captured in the article by SFGate by former owner Eddy: “Everything you see in San Francisco, you see here,” Chan says. “White, blue, green, black, gay, straight, bi, transgender.”

A Locally Loved Favorite For Decades

The Mint is a personality in a bar. The walls scream SF history and probably a lot of debauchery as well. Strangely, The Mint did something right with its funky, very interesting decor and vibe to reach a wide range of audiences. A former bartender Jay mentioned: “The Mint Karaoke Lounge is legendary, being from a small county town, I never thought my best friend would become a loud, gay, Greek karaoke screamer named Yanni. The Mint has that way of opening the doorway to meet anyone and everyone. Even my straight-laced aunts love the place when visiting, and often ask to come back. That’s the Mint, why are we all here, we really don’t know. I don’t even sing, but love meeting the people that come here.” A beloved regular Tony Maddox once put The Mint Karaoke Lounge best in this SFGate article: “It reminds me of ‘Cheers, We all know each other, we all feel comfortable singing around each other. It’s a second family, a second home.” I’ve been coming here for 20 years. Why do I come here? I have absolutely no idea, It’s the best place.”

Many visitors to San Francisco may miss out on The Mint Karaoke Lounge as it’s one of San Francisco’s best-kept secret bars. Is it still a secret? Maybe not to locals, but many know where to find the best karaoke in the city and the best entertainment on weekends. As you can see from this Reddit article The Mint Karaoke Lounge is often regarded as the best SF hotspot, especially for karaoke or just a great night out on the town.
