The Mint is a personality in a bar. The walls scream SF history and probably a lot of debauchery as well. A former bartender Jay mentioned: “The Mint Karaoke Lounge is legendary, being from a small county town, I never thought my best friend would become a loud, gay, Greek karaoke screamer named Yanni. The Mint has that way of opening the doorway to meet anyone and everyone. Even my straight-laced aunts love the place when visiting, and often ask to come back. That’s the Mint, why are we all here, we really don’t know. I don’t even sing, but love meeting the people that come here.” A beloved regular Tony Maddox once put The Mint Karaoke Lounge best in this SFGate article: “It reminds me of ‘Cheers, We all know each other, we all feel comfortable singing around each other. It’s a second family, a second home.” I’ve been coming here for 20 years. Why do I come here? I have absolutely no idea, It’s the best place.”
